100% Natural
In "100% natural", I wish to explore the essential contradiction of mankind's relationship to nature. I feel that we love nature, but we are unable to truly relate to it. So in my works, the quest for nature turns into a nightmare: in virgin environments, where at last the lost, original link to Mother Nature may be re-enacted - civilization catches up with us! Its obsessive impulse to define, categorize, label does never leave our natural “self” in its genuine simplicity.
These messages – traffic boards, advertisings, warnings… - are absurd and paradoxical. They express our wish to protect nature. But more importantly, they reveal our own instinctive will to name, classify all that we see, all that we live. Do we need to mention that nature is “100% natural”? Do we ever need a word for nature? Do we need to incorporate and understand it in our own human constructions, for nature to make sense? Are we able to get out, for one instant, from all the artificial constructions we built up, that separate us from nature and from our true self?
